SPIKE JONES "THANK YOU MUSIC LOVERS" (RCA VICTOR LPM-2224)

"Lindley Armstrong "Spike" Jones (December 14, 1911, Long Beach, California – May 1, 1965, Beverly Hills, California) was a popular musician and bandleader specializing in performing satirical arrangements of popular songs. Ballads and classical works receiving the Jones treatment would be punctuated with gunshots, whistles, cowbells, and ridiculous vocals. Through the 1940s and early 1950s, the band recorded as Spike Jones and his City Slickers and toured the USA and Canada under the title, The Musical Depreciation Revue." Wikipedia

Unfortunately this was not a very clean LP. I did the best that I could with Goldwave to clean it up. This is one of many LPs that I discovered while searching for any LP that had Jack Davis artwork on it. I got it for what I thought was an awesome price on ebay. However, once I heard the condition of the LP I soon realized why I got it so cheaply. I have several other LPs I have not even ripped to my PC yet that came from this Jack Davis search. I also found Gene Moss' "Dracula's Greatest Hits" (unfortunately the Monster Card sheet was long gone when I found it), 3 Homer & Jethro LPs, "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World Soundtrack", "The Greatest Of The Guess Who", and "Bob & Ray - A Stereo Spectacular". I used to have the David Frye LP, but it disappeared from my collection sometime or another. I'll get around to sharing them all one of these days. You can see the webpage that helped me with that search HERE

Spike Jones In Hi Fi - A Spooktacular in Screaming Sound

Spike Jones in Stereo (also known as Spike Jones in Hi-Fi and A Spooktacular in Screaming Sound) (1959) is a horror-comedy album by musical-satirist Spike Jones. Unlike his previous recordings, which make fun of genres such as Christmas and classical music, Spike Jones in Stereo sends-up everything from horror movies to the hit T.V show This is Your Life, which Jones pokes fun at in the track "This is Your Death".
Making a notable guest appearance on the album is Paul Frees, who plays the voice of Dracula, Professor Lud Wig Van Drake and one of the heads on the two headed monster. Other recognisable voices such as Loulie Jean Norman (as Vampira), Thurl Ravenscroft, and George Rock (the voice on Jones's only number one hit "All I Want for Christmas (Is My Two Front Teeth)") also give stand out performances, bringing to life Jones’s already spooktacular music.
Most of the tracks on Spike Jones in Stereo do not appear on his many compilation albums ("I Only Have Eyes For You" and "My Old Flame" being the only two), but it’s still considered among his finest post City-Slickers efforts.

BILL DANN'S ANSWER/PARODY SONG COMPILATION

THIS ZIP FILE IS A COMPILATION OF MORE THAN 30 OF THE ANSWER/PARODY DISCS THAT BILL DANN SENT ME.

The early to mid-1960s was probably the heyday of answer or response songs, those tunes that referred directly or indirectly to another song, or is meant as a reply to another song. The reason? It was believed this was to try to "cash in" on a huge hit, ride the momentum, so to speak.

Most of these were rather forgettable, but there were a few gems in the mix. parodies were humorous or satirical imitations, but could also be an answer song.

"This Land Is Your Land" was Woody Guthrie's socialist response to "God Bless America" by Irving Berlin

The following was actually from the 1950s, "Bark, Battle, And Brawl"& by The Platters was the response to Shake, Rattle, And Roll", the HUGE Bill Haley and The Comets hit.

Daddy's Home" by Shep and The Limelites (1961) was the answer song to " A Thousand Miles Away by The Heartbeats (1956). James "Shep" Sheppard was the lead singer on both songs.

"Dawn Of Correction" by The Spokesmen was the response to Barry McQuire's "Eve Of Destruction." (1965).

Spokesmen member David White was a member of Danny and The Juniors.. "I'll Bring It Home To You" was the response of Carla Thomas to Sam Cooke"s "Bring It On Home To Me" (1962) . Both were written by Cooke.

"Fourth Time Around" by Bob Dylan answered The Beatles' "Norwegian Wood" (late '65-early '66?)

Percy Sledge had the big 1966 hit "When A Man Loves A Woman". Ketty Lester responded with "When A Woman Loves A Man".

The Chantels hit no. 20 with " Well, I Told You," a response to Ray Charles' "Hit The Road, Jack", both from 1961.

Jim Reeves' He'll Have To Go" got singer Jeannie Black to declare that "He'll Have To Stay." (1960) The latter was a no. 4 smash.

Gene Chandler's follow-up and answer to "Duke Of Earl" was "Walk On With The Duke".

Chris Kenner had a big hit with "I Like It Like That." The Bobbettes responded with "I Don't Like It Like That."

The ultimate, and best, answer song? "My Girl" by The Temptations (1965) which was a response to "My Guy" by Mary Wells (1964). Smokey Robinson wrote and produced both songs." Courtesy Suite101.com

ENJOY!!

DELTA RHYTHM BOYS SING DRY BONES IN A COUPLE OF 1950'S VIDEOS

THANKS TO GUDJON FOR IDENTIFYING THIS GROUP FOR ME AS THE DELATA RHYTHM DOYS FROM THE 1950'S. I LOVE THIS SONG ESPECIALLY THE WAY THEY PROGRESS UP AND DOWN THE OCTAVE AS THEY PROGRESS UP AND DOWN THE NAMES OF THE BONES OF THE BODY. THE BASS SINGER HERE IS AWESOME.

HERE'S A VIDEO OF ANOTHER, SLOWER VERSION OF THE BOYS DOING "DRY BONES":

"THE HAUNTED JUKEBOX" COMPILATION BY A BLOG READER FRIEND

ONE OF THE READERS OF MY BLOGS HAS SENT ME A BOATLOAD OF HALLOWEEN NOVELTY SONGS THAT HE HAS COMPILED. THERE ARE 9 CDS WORTH, BUT I WILL ONLY BE SHARING 2 CDS WORTH OF SONGS. THIS IS DUE TO THE TIME AND EXPENSE THAT THE OWNERS WENT INTO TO COMPILE THESE RECORDINGS (MANY OF WHICH COST SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO ACQUIRE LONG, LONG OUT OF PRINT COPIES OF). HERE IS SOME INFO HE SENT ME:

"“…There’s a haunted jukebox in a tumbled down shack. It plays the kind of music that sends shivers down your back……” –Sharkey Todd, aka “The Cool Gool”

Greetings all you (living?) souls, from your favorite fiends,..er,…I mean friends here in Spooksville, U.S.A. Feel free to enter here if you dare, but be warned, you are about to be scared…silly!! In your hands (webbed or otherwise), you hold, without a doubt, the ULTIMATE compilation of “boneyard biggies” all under one crypt! We really “dig” monster novelties, and have really dug deep in the musical vaults to produce this series of “tombstone treasures”, who’s overall content quality is unequalled! The bulk of titles contained on this, as well as additional volumes of “The Haunted Jukebox” appear for the FIRST time on cd…ever! Many of these “monster morsels” are so obscure infact, that they rank among the “holy grail” of collectors everywhere! Although credited as “Bill Dann’s Haunted Jukebox”, this project has been a total collaboration since it’s inception. Having accumulated a sizeable library of titles since the mid-70’s, I decided to approach veteran Music guru Marc Bird about the prospects of producing this series. Being a true connoisseur of vintage vinyl (with a strong partiality to novelties in general), he agreed that the release of these ultra-rare discs was long overdue, and “The Haunted Jukebox” was about to come to life! Marc’s finely-honed mix master skills were then called into service and after many painstaking hours in the studio, it turned out the finished product had far exceeded our expectations. Simply put, this exclusive series is a “must-have” for both the serious collector, as well as any thrill-hungry fan of Monster Mayhem and Ghoulish Grooves. Over the course of this series, we’ll time travel to many favorite “haunts” , and you won’t want to miss a minute of this most bizarre adventure! Yes, you could say that we’ve really created a monster (many monsters in this case), and we’re only too happy to bring some “fresh meat” to the table (very rare, of course!). I see you have some selections remaining on “The Haunted Jukebox”, and we have those “casket classics” ready to drop (if you know what I mean!). We must advise, though, to beware of records that go “bump’ in the night! Oh, and one other thing…you can keep the change. You just never know when a monster might approach you on the street and ask "Hey, live one, can you spare a dime?"

Marc Bird, who spent many hours as a labor of love remastering these Monster rareties, passed away in January of 2008. His dedication to quality will serve to honor his memory

ANOTHER CEREAL BOX HALLOWEEN FLEXI - "HAUNTED HOUSE"

THIS IS THE FLEXI THAT CYBERDMAN ASKED ABOUT IN THE COMMENTS AREA OF THE POST BELOW. IT'S IN MY FILES, BUT NO CLUE WHERE I GOT IT FROM. I'M ASSUMING THIS IS ONLY "THE HAUNTED HOUSE" STORY. THE REASON BEING IN THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER IT SAYS THIS IS RECORD NO. AND A WHITE CICLE FOR 1, 2 OR 3. THE SCAN I HAVE OF THE FLEXI HAS NO NUMBER WRITTEN IN THE WHITE CIRCLE. HOWEVER, IN LISTENING TO THE FILE I HAVE I WOULD ASSUME IT IS "THE HAUNTED HOUSE" STORY NO. 1. THE OTHER 2 STORIES - "GHOST IN THE ATTIC" AND "SOUNDS OF THE UNKNOWN" I DON'T HAVE IN MY MUSIC FILES. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THEM?

SPOOKY STORIES HALLOWEEN FLEXI

SOMEONE WAS SEARCHING FOR A FLEXI OF THIS NAME AT THE HALLOWEENFORUM.COM. I FOUND A FILE IN MY MUSIC SECTION THAT HAS THIS NAME, AND ALSO HAS THE ONE STORY I THINK THAT "REAPER" WAS SEARCHING FOR CALLED "LONELY, LONELY". I'M NOT SURE WHERE I GOT THESE TWO MUSIC FILES FROM. THE FIRST OF THE TWO STORIES IS "THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW" STORY THAT CAME OFF FROM ANOTHER FLEXI CONTAINING THREE WADE DENNING STORIES. AS FOR "LONELY, LONELY" I'M NOT SURE WHAT ITS SOURCE WAS. ANYWAY HERE IS A SCAN OF THE FLEXI RECORD, AND THE ZIP FILE CONTAINING THE 2 VERY SHORT STORIES:

DAVID MCCALLUM "MUSIC IT'S HAPPENING NOW!" (CAPITOL RECORDS T-2651 1967)

A SOB STORY FOR ANOTHER TIME, BUT MY 76 YEAR OLD DAD HAS DECIDED TO GET MARRIED AGAIN (MY MOM DIED IN 2003). SO TO MAKE WAY FOR HIS NEW WIFE'S GRANDDAUGHTERS THAT LIVE WITH HER MY BROTHER AND I HAD TO GO OVER TO MY DAD'S HOUSE, AND GET RID OF THE LAST OF OUR STUFF FROM CHILDHOOD AND SO FORTH. IN CLEANING OUT THE LAST OF MY CRAP I CAME ACROSS A FEW LPS WITHOUT COVERS. ONE OF THEM WAS THIS LP. I'D NEVER EVEN HEARD THAT MCCALLUM HAD EVER DONE ANY SINGING LPS. I HAVE NO CLUE WHERE THE LP CAME FROM. MY BROTHER THINKS HE HAD BOUGHT IT BECAUSE HE WAS A BIG "MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E." FAN. HE SAID HE DIDN'T WANT IT SO I BROUGHT IT HOME. IT WAS PRETTY BADLY SCRATCHED UP, AND SO I DIDN'T TAKE TIME TO EDIT OUT THE SKIP ANDS THE POPS AND CLICKS BOTH. ANYWAY THIS IS IT.

DAVID MCCALLUM "MUSIC IT'S HAPPENING NOW!" ZIP FILE

TRACK LIST:

A Man And A Woman (2:34)
If I Were A Carpenter (2:10)

Carnegie Ball (2:01) (MCALLUM WROTE THIS ONE)
On A Weekend (1:45)
Alfie (2:52)
House Of Mirrors (2:25)

I ALSO CAME ACROSS THESE LPS THAT I DON'T KNOW IF THEY'RE IN ANY KIND OF SHAPE WORTH SHARING OR NOT:

"BATTLE STEREO - THE SOUNDS OF WAR" (THIS ONE
     IS BEING SHARED HERE)
W. C. FIELD "THE ORIGINAL VOICE TRACKS FROM HIS
     GREATEST MOVIES" (THIS ONE
     IS BEING SHARED HERE)
"SOUND EFFECTS IN STEREO VOLUME 7"
HOT BUTTER - "POPCORN"
"DUELING BANJOS"
ROY CLARK & BUCK TRENT - "PAIR OF FIVES"
"AMERICA MARCHES"
PIPES AND DRUMS MILITARY BAND OF SCOTLAND -

MOST OF THESE ARE PRETTY SCRATCHED SO I'M NOT SURE
IF I'LL EVER GET RIPS OF THEM OR NOT. AFTER THE EXPERIENCE OF RIPPING THE DAVID MCCALLUM LP I'VE COME TO THE CONCLUSION IT WILL BE A LONG TIME OCMING BEFORE I TRY RIPPING THESE OTHER LPS. SORRY.

WEIRDO RECORDS IS HOLDING A BAD SONG CONTEST

Weirdo Records is holding a bad song contest.

To compete simply send in your bad song. It can be submitted on any recorded format. Reels, 2-track tape, 16rpm lps, wax cylinders, beta tapes, etc are perfectly welcome alongside more popular formats. If you prefer you may also submit a score or even some mere rough chord charts/lyrics/directions.

It's completely up to you to decide why the song is bad. Perhaps you know a creepy song that's quite fascinating. Perhaps there's an especially annoying song you find very intensely mediocre. Perhaps you know one that unduly pushes the limits of what could be called a song. Or you may think some entangled aesthetic combination of all of the above. The song does not necessarily have to be written/recorded by you, although originality is a factor of the judging process.

Submissions must be recieved at Weirdo by September 1st, 2008 & will not be returned. Qualifications, disqualifications, & other decisions are entirely at the discretion of Weirdo. However please note that your comments are more than welcome & all submissions will be given due consideration.

The winner of the bad song contest will receive a $50 gift certificate to Weirdo, so be sure to include your contact info along with your submission. Winner, runners up & honorable mentions will be posted on this page as they come in for all to see, hear, & guffaw over. The winner will be announced on the Weirdo email list & posted here promptly upon the end of the submission period.

What are you waiting for?

Send your submission to:

END OF THE ROAD FOLKS??? OR MAYBE NOT!!!

IT'S BEEN SUGGESTED I TRY A DONATION BUTTON TO PAY FOR MUSIC FILE HOSTING FEES. I HAVE DONE SO AT TOP OF THE RIGHT HAND COLUMN. WE'LL SEE HOW THAT GOES. I THANK ALL OF THOSE VERY GENEROUS DONATIONS THAT HAVE COME IN SO FAR.

I ALSO ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO DOWNLOAD AS MANY OF MY MEGAUPLOAD SHARES AS THEY CAN. I GET REWARD POINTS FOR EVERY "UNIQUE" (NOT SURE WHAT THAT MEANS) DOWNLOAD. I CAN CASH IN 20,000 POINTS EACH MONTH, AND GET 1 MORE MONTH OF FREE PREMIUM MEGAUPLOAD (WHICH GIVES ME 25OGB OF FILE STORAGE). AT PRESENT I HAVE ABOUT 32,000 POINTS LEFT FROM PAST DOWNLOADS. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE OUTPOURING OF KIND WORDS, ENCOURAGEMENT AND SUPPORT.

NOT SURE HOW MANY OF YOU ARE AWARE THAT MY WIFE AND I ARE BOTH DISABLED AND ON SSI DISABILITY. WELL WHAT WITH THE RISING COST OF FUEL, GROCERIES, RENT, ETC.., ETC.. I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO CLOSE DOWN EVERY WEBSITE I OWN THAT IS PAID FOR IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. SO SADLY ANYMORE MUSIC SHARES WILL NOT BE TAKING PLACE AT THIS, OR MY OTHER 2 SHARING BLOGS, OR MY 250FREE.COM WEBSITES. AS A MATTER OF FACT I WILL PROBABLY BE PUTTING MY ENTIRE MUSIC COLLECTION UP FOR SALE AT MY BLUE-JAY WEBSITE. THIS BLOG IS FREE SO IT SHALL REMAIN HERE. HOWEVER, COME THE END OF JUNE, I WOULD SAY, I WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO PAY FOR THE SITES WHERE I PAY TO HAVE MY MANY MUSIC FILES HOSTED. I POST THIS NOTICE NOT FOR SYMPATHY, BUT TO LET YOU ALL KNOW THAT YOU SHOULD GRAB EVERY MUSIC FILE I HAVE AT MY 3 BLOGS & MY 25OFREE.COM WEBSITES WHILE YOU CAN. COME THE END OF JUNE THEY WILL NO LONGER HAVE VALID DOWNLOAD LINKS. SORRY TO HAVE TO TAKE THINGS TO THIS EXTREME, BUT THAT IS HOW THINGS ARE GOING NOW WITH OUR ECONOMY. IT'S BEEN FUN, AND I HATE TO DO ALL OF THIS, BUT SHORT OF LOSING MY MARRIAGE OVER THE FIGHTS WE'VE HAD LATELY OVER FINANCES, I HAVE NO CHOICE. THANK YOU TO ALL OF MY MANY READERS AND FANS OVER THESE PAST 4 OR 5 YEARS. DO KEEP IN TOUCH SOME HOW. THANKS!!!

I VANT TO BITE YOUR FINGER!! BY IDEAL

A COUPLE WEEKS AGO I FOUND THIS GAME, AND COULDN'T RESIST GETTING IT FOR MY GRANDKIDS TO PLAY WITH WHEN THEY COME TO VISIT AT MY MOTHER IN LAWS IN ILLINOIS. IT'S A PRETTY SIMPLE GAME. 2 TO 4 PLAYERS HAVE A GAME PIECE THEY TRY TO MOVE AROUND THE BOARD TO THE FINISH LINE. IN THE MEAN TIME A CLOCK IS TICKING AWAY THE TIME. IF IT HAPPENS TO GO OFF, AND THE VAMPIRE OPENS HIS CAPE THE PLAYER IN THE MIDDLE OF THEIR MOVE MUST PLACE THEIR FINGERTIP IN THE VAMPIRES MOUTH. ANOTHER PLAYER PUSHES DOWN ON A MECHANISM THAT LEAVES TWO LITTLE RED INK MARKS ON THAT PLAYERS FINGERTIP THAT LOOKS LIKE THE BITE OF A VAMPIRE. I WAS HAPPILY SURPRISED TO FIND THIS GAME COMPLETE, AND STILL CONTAINING RED INK IN THE VAMPIRES MOUTH PAD. HAS ANYONE ELSE HEARD THIS GAME, OR MAYBE HAD IT WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG?

HERE'S THE OTHER BOARD GAMES I PASSED ON BECAUSE THEY HAD TOO MANY PIECES MISSING:
